ReHabitat is Habitat for Humanity of Smith County’s critical repair program. Our goal is simple: to build strength, stability, independence and improved health for seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities as well as low-income individuals. ReHabitat improves the quality of life of homeowners and residents and existing neighborhoods.
ReHabitat was started in October 2009 to help low-income seniors with emergency home repairs and modifications. ReHabitat began with a $200,000.00 grant from the East Texas Council of Governments. With that grant, we made critical repairs on 67 homes and served 108 individuals by the end of 2010.
Critical home repairs include new roofs, plumbing, foundation cracks, unstable floors, energy efficient doors and windows, hot water tanks, HVAC and more. We eliminate barriers and improve safety by making the home accessible.
